SUNSET SHOWDOWN ‘19
First Drift Event Ever
I’ve raced on a Go-Kart track, and attended car shows but never have I ever been on the sideline of a drift event. Thank You Ben of WestOf6ix for the invitation to get coverage for WSM’s beginning stages. For Sunset Showdown we’re at the Sunset Speedway located in Innisfil, Ontario.
The Beginning of the Show
After a hour and a half drive we finally pulled up to Sunset Speedway where the sound of screeching tires, and the smell of burnt rubber hit us. The announcer on the intercom described the cars every move as if drifted around the course, and that stockpiled our eagerness to get inside for the experience. By the time we reached the sidelines, the racer had wrapped up his pass, but this gave us time to capture the show cars.
This is what a good car show looks like
All good vibes here at Sunset Showdown. Nobody starting any scenes, nobody being snobby or reserved, but genuinely open and willing to discuss their builds. The GotAssGirls attended the show along with Mr. Carlos; a great host at a lot of the major shows in Ontario. We lurked amongst the crowd as the show continued, but we decided to take a moment to enjoy ourselves as a enthusiast, rather than work. If we kept going, we would miss priceless moments like this.
Time to get on track!
As the crowd eased away from the main show, it was time to venture off to the track where a whole other experience was about to begin. Track time.

Tire chunks in my eye
For the first pass, two Nissans went at it drifting around corners at high speeds, turbo sounds surging, and tire chunks whipping me in the eye. The control these two drifters possessed was amazing. Seeing something so ferocious, but tamed elegantly sliding around, brought an incredible feeling that could only be experienced and not worded. Every driver here at Sunset Showdown showed off their wheelman skills, and their cars held up great for a hot day! Although there were a few hiccups for some drivers, I was impressed with the builds, and we’re appreciative for the show they put on for us!
Until next time..
