Ontario Honda Dealers Indy: Where Work Meets the Love of Racing

There’s something different about photographing motorsport on a street circuit.

The noise feels closer. The crowds feel bigger. The cars feel faster.

And when you're someone who has spent years around cars and motorsport, there’s a point where the line between working the event and simply being a fan of it starts to disappear.

That was the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham.

This past weekend, WolfSolo Media was on the ground in Markham, Ontario, capturing the people, cars, teams and atmosphere surrounding a packed weekend of racing. From the Radicals to the thunder of INDYCAR and NASCAR, there was never a shortage of something happening.

It was a weekend filled with racing, crowds, activities, unexpected changes and, most importantly, a lot of fun.

Friday Didn't Go Quite As Planned

Every motorsport weekend comes with its own set of challenges, and Friday was a perfect example.

With the track not yet completed and ready for competition, the day's scheduled racing was cancelled.

From a photographer's perspective, it was obviously disappointing. You show up ready to work, cameras prepared, batteries charged and a weekend of shooting ahead of you, only to have the schedule change before the action even begins.

But that's motorsport.

Things move. Plans change. Logistics happen.

The important thing is being ready when the opportunity finally arrives.

And by Saturday morning, it was clear the wait had been worth it.

The Streets Came Alive

Saturday and Sunday completely changed the atmosphere.

The streets were filled with fans, teams, drivers, vendors and automotive enthusiasts, while the sound of race cars echoed throughout the circuit.

Our primary focus for the weekend was the Emzone Radical Cup Canada presented by Michelin, giving us the opportunity to spend significant time around the cars, drivers and teams while documenting their weekend from behind the camera.

But as an enthusiast, it was impossible not to gravitate toward the main circuit.

USF2000.

NTT INDYCAR.

NASCAR.

Different cars. Different sounds. Different personalities.

But the same unmistakable feeling of being around a live race weekend.

Whenever those sessions started, we'd make our way toward the track to capture what we could. Sometimes that meant stepping away from the primary assignment for a few moments just to experience the spectacle unfolding in front of us.

And honestly, that's one of the best parts of doing this work.

Rivalry on Track, Respect Off It

One of the moments that stood out most over the weekend wasn't necessarily the fastest car or the loudest engine.

It was what happened between two of the Radical Series' leading drivers.

Earlier in the weekend, the two competitors had their share of drama during one of the races. When you're fighting for position, every corner matters, every pass matters, and emotions can run high.

That's part of racing.

But by the second race, the story had changed.

Both drivers found themselves standing on the podium together, celebrating the round with champagne in hand.

And honestly, that moment said a lot about motorsport.

Yes, we're competitors.

Yes, we're going to disagree.

Yes, sometimes things get heated when you're fighting for the same piece of track.

But at the end of the day, we're all here because we love to race.

The rivalry stays on the track. The respect comes with it.

Watching those two drivers go from earlier-weekend drama to standing side-by-side on the podium, celebrating a successful round, was a perfect reminder of what makes racing so special.

You can fight hard, push each other to the limit and want nothing more than to beat the person beside you and still share a champagne toast when the helmets come off.

Because underneath the competition, there's a shared passion.

We just want to race.

When You're Working, But You're Still a Fan

There's a unique feeling that comes with being trackside with a camera in your hands.

You're thinking about shutter speed.

You're watching the light.

You're looking for the right angle.

You're anticipating where the car is going to be.

You're thinking about the next shot before you've even finished taking the current one.

But then an INDYCAR comes flying past.

Or a NASCAR hits the circuit.

And for a moment, you're not thinking about the shot.

You're just watching.

That's the part of motorsport photography that never gets old.

You can spend hours focused on getting the perfect image, but you're still surrounded by something you've genuinely loved long before you ever picked up a camera professionally.

The cars are loud. The crowds are energetic. The paddock is constantly moving.

And when everything comes together, it's incredibly easy to forget that you're technically there to work.

More Than Just the Cars

One of the biggest things we love about motorsport photography is that the story isn't limited to what's happening on track.

It's the driver preparing before a session.

It's the crew working on the car.

It's fans watching from the barriers.

It's the conversations happening throughout the paddock.

It's the atmosphere between sessions.

It's the little moments that most people don't necessarily see when they're watching a race broadcast.

That's what photography allows us to capture.

We're not just documenting race cars.

We're documenting the culture surrounding them.

And the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy had plenty of it.

A Weekend Worth Remembering

From a working perspective, the weekend was a great opportunity to continue building our motorsport portfolio and capture a wide variety of imagery across different racing disciplines.

From an enthusiast's perspective, it was simply an incredible weekend to be around racing.

That's a combination we're fortunate to have at WolfSolo Media.

We get to create.

We get to work with teams and drivers.

We get to tell stories through photography.

And we get to spend our weekends surrounded by cars that we genuinely love.

Not every weekend goes perfectly. Friday proved that.

But sometimes the unexpected delays make the eventual payoff that much better.

Once the track opened and the cars started roaring through the streets, the weekend became exactly what we hoped it would be.

Fast.

Loud.

Busy.

And a hell of a lot of fun.

Want a Piece of the Weekend?

We captured a wide range of images throughout the event, from Radical racing action and driver moments to INDYCAR, NASCAR, USF2000 and the atmosphere surrounding the Honda Indy.

If there's an image from the weekend that you love, prints are available.

Choose any image from the gallery and turn a moment from the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy into something you can keep on your wall.

Whether it's your favourite car, your favourite driver or simply an image that captures what the weekend felt like, we'd be happy to bring it to life in print.

Thank You

A huge thank you to FEL Motorsports for putting together an incredible weekend of racing, and to all of the Honda Indy teams, drivers, crews, partners, volunteers and everyone involved behind the scenes who helped bring the event to life.

For WolfSolo Media, this weekend was another reminder of exactly why we love doing what we do.

We're not just here to photograph racing.

We're here because we love racing.

And when you can combine the two, that's when the work becomes something more.
